Hotel Report: The Catalina
Whether you are planning a romantic vacation or a group celebration, The Catalina in South Beach has you covered with chic spots to unwind and feel the ocean’s breeze. The Miami hotel, located at 1732 Collins Avenue, has an endless amount of amenities, including two restaurants, two pools, four bars, a media library, a rooftop terrace, a Japanese Koi fish pond and a Zen garden. The hotel is split between a few gorgeous art deco buildings that offer stunning views (pictured above) of South Beach.
Unwind at The Catalina’s rooftop pool in a private cabana while sipping cocktails at the pool’s bar. If shade from the sun’s harmful rays is what you desire, The Catalina’s bamboo pool is likely a better fit. Owners have created a tropical oasis by surrounding the pool with tall bamboo trees, a plethora of lounge chairs and cabanas. The staff is always available to help with auxiliary needs. Before feasting on dinner, enjoy a complimentary beverage at the hotel’s cocktail hour from 7 to 8 p.m. In additional to the rooftop bar at the pool, The Catalina boasts three other bars — the Red Bar, Maxine’s Bar and the Sushi Bar at the Kung Fu restaurant.
Take your Mai Tai to one of the restaurants, which have gorgeous, handmade wood tables that allow guests to people watch in the open air below palm trees and neon lights (pictured above). If you are set on spending a night dancing, work with The Catalina’s event planner well before your trip. You don’t want your party to end up street side while you wait to get into a club for hours, so instead organize and book your future wild night, options here, in advance and The Catalina’s staff will ensure you party Miami Style well into the early morning hours.
Once you’ve seen the sights and danced off dinner, head back to your plush room and enjoy the 42-inch plasma TV and stocked mini-bar. The hotel boats Tempur-Pedic Swedish mattresses, 300-thread count Belgian sheets, goose down comforters and pillows. The rooms have an elegant, modern feel that favor dark, moody colors. The luxurious rooms make sleeping in comfortable for even the most restless sleeper.
Before you check out, make sure to swing by one of North Miami’s gorgeous beaches (pictures above). The Catalina provides beach-cruiser bicycles for guests, but walking to the ocean is always an option thanks to The Catalina’s prime location. Every roof should have a pool, no? Rooves sloped at steep angles get a pass, I suppose.
